Hotel Chelsea: The Reinvention of a Century

New York City hospitality has been forever influenced by the classic Hotel Chelsea and a newly minted Chelsea Hotels brand will add to the triumph. It all began with the legendary Hotel Chelsea built in the mid 1880’s in the heart of New York City. Hotel Chelsea has served as an iconic New York City staple and celebrity rendezvous for decades. Then Ed Scheetz, a prominent hotelier and owner of the former King and Groves Hotels purchased Hotel Chelsea in 2013. He then in turn renamed his King and Groves Hotels for Hotel Chelsea creating a new Chelsea Hotels brand. With plans for five New York area locations, all will be completely unique and distinct from one another. All hotels will be renovated and reopened to optimize the Chelsea Hotels sense of individuality, authenticity, and creativity. These hotels are designed as a place for anyone and everyone to relax and enjoy.

Currently open in New York are the Martha Washington, McCarren Hotel and Pool, and Ruschmeyers. Each has their own individual design and warm spaces. The Martha Washington’s slogan, Exclusively for Everyone, truly captures the essence of the property. Offering 276 guest rooms, the Martha Washington is steps away from Madison Square Garden and other New York City landmarks. McCarren Hotel and Pool is situated in Brooklyn and captures the authenticity of the urban borough. Rushmeyers is truly unique and celebrates a wilderness theme that will take you to the carefree days of summer camp. This location is outside of the city in Montauk, Long Island.

The most prominent of the Chelsea Hotels, the inspiration of the brand, Hotel Chelsea will be reopened in 2015 after a renovation. This hotel has been the residence of numerous actors, artists and musician. It was a famed stomping ground of Andy Warhol, Edie Sedgwick, and Bob Dylan among others. The renovations to this century old building will bring new life and style to a historic New York City location. The last addition the Chelsea Hotels family will be The Astor. Aptly named for the neighborhood that shares its name, The Astor will be a luxurious and impressive venture. This location will open in 2016. This new line of hotels is striving to capture the heart of New York and will do so in truly unique settings.
